The 2024 MLB draft is almost here. Hundreds of young baseball players from across the country will hope to hear their name called by a club on Sunday night in Arlington, Texas. The event, which will operate alongside the MLB All-Star Game, will see a number of young prospect's lives changed forever.
During last year's MLB draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates chose pitcher Paul Skenes with the No. 1 overall pick. The pitcher has more than lived up to the hype that surrounds a number-one selection, as he will be participating in this year's All-Star Game.
MLB prospects come from all walks of life. From collegiate stars to children of former stars, there is no telling where the next big star may come from. Here's a closer look at some of the draft-eligible players whose fathers either played in the MLB or held an important role in the league.
5 MLB Draft prospects whose fathers excelled in the league
#1. Lucas Ramirez, OF, American Heritage HS
Lucas Ramirez is an intriguing outfield prospect with an athletic build capable of adding strength as he ages. The Tennessee commit is the son of former Boston Red Sox slugger Manny Ramirez and packs plenty of punch in his bat. He could find himself selected in the first couple rounds of Sunday's draft, as his potential will likely intrigue several clubs.

#2. Max McGwire, 1B, San Diego
Another son of a former home-run king is Max McGwire. The hard-hitting first baseman of the San Diego Toreros could follow in his father's footsteps in the MLB.
While comparing Max to one of the most prolific home run hitters of all time, Mark McGwire, may not seem fair, he has plenty of pop in his bat and could one day bring that ability to the majors.
#3. Teddy Cashman, OF, Lafayette College
The only prospect on this list whose father was not an MLB superstar is outfield prospect Teddy Cashman. Teddy is the son of long-time New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman and will look to make his way to the majors one day. He is an intriguing outfielder who should draw some interest in the draft.

#4. Braden Halladay, RHP, High Point
Another son of a former major league star is Braden Halladay. The young pitcher is the son of the late-great Toronto Blue Jays superstar Roy Halladay.
The relief pitcher has struggled this season for High Point University, posting a 9.82 ERA through 11.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.
#5. Noah Sheffield, SS, Jesuit HS
Unlike his hard-hitting father Gary, Noah Sheffield plys his trade in the infield. Sheffield has been impressive throughout his baseball career so far and should draw plenty of interest in the 2024 MLB draft, thanks to his strong showing during the combine.

While he will want to create his own legacy, it's difficult to separate him from his father since he has a strikingly similar batting stance to the former Miami Marlins slugger.
