In today's look at injury updates across the MLB, a few teams have received some positive news on some of their sidelined stars. With the All-Star Game looming, teams may be willing to give their injured players a little more time to recover even if they are ready to be activated. Here's a closer look at some notable injury updates across the league.
MLB Injury Updates for July 9
Mike Trout
Injured Los Angeles Angels captain Mike Trout has taken part in a number of drills as he continues to work his way back to the lineup. Trout has taken part in some light jogging on the field, as well as hitting on the field. He is expected to begin taking part in batting practice sooner rather than later.
Xander Bogaerts
The San Diego Padres could soon have one of their best players return to their lineup. Veteran shortstop Xander Bogaerts could be activated from the IL before the All-Star Break as he has made significant progress in his recovery from a fractured left shoulder.
"It appears Xander Bogaerts remains on track to return for final series before All-Star break. Will likely face live pitching at Petco Park and play a game or two in Lake Elsinore before that" - @sdutKevinAcee
TJ Friedl
The Cincinnati Reds could soon be getting some reinforcements in the outfield. TJ Freidl continues to ramp up his rehabilitation process and has been cleared to participate in a running progression. He could be back in the lineup soon after the All-Star break if he can avoid any sort of setbacks.
Eduardo Rodriguez
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo provided an injury update on a number of their injured starting pitchers, including Eduardo Rodriguez. According to Lovullo, Eduardo Rodriguez, Jordan Montgomery, and Merrill Kelly will all throw bullpen sessions on Wednesday. This is massive news for the ailing pitching rotation.
Junior Caminero
One of the top prospects in the MLB is Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero. Unfortunately for fans, the promising slugger has not only remained in the minor leagues so far this season but also has been out of action since the end of May with a left quad strain. That being said, a recent injury update says that Caminero has begun a minor league rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League.
"#Rays top prospect Junior Caminero is beginning a rehab assignment in the Florida Complex League. The No. 3 overall prospect last played May 28 for Triple-A Durham before sustaining a Grade 2 left quad strain. He's been limited to 34 games this season" - @SamDykstraMiLB
Parker Meadows
It has been an unfortunate turn of events for Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows. The promising young outfielder was placed on the 10-day IL on Monday after suffering a right hamstring strain. Meadows only appeared in three games after being promoted to the MLB.
