The 2024 MLB season continues to roll along and as usual, there are a number of injuries plaguing nearly every club. There have been a number of serious injuries this season, particularly when it comes to starting pitching. This week has been no different as yet another notable pitcher has been placed on the IL. If there is one thing you can say about baseball, it certainly is unpredictable.
MLB Injury Updates for June 20
Walker Buehler
It's been a rough 2024 campaign for Los Angeles Dodgers starter Walker Buehler. After returning to the team's rotation following a lengthy recovery from Tommy John Surgery, the former All-Star has struggled to find his form on the mound. The 29-year-old was placed on the 15-day IL by the Dodgers with right hip inflammation. So far he is without a timeline for his return to the lineup.
CJ Abrams
The Washington Nationals could potentially be without budding young star CJ Abrams for some time. The talented shortstop is set to undergo an MRI on his left wrist. Although the team has yet to provide further updates on Abrams' wrist injury, he is currently listed as day-to-day and remains out of the team's lineup on Thursday.
"CJ Abrams is getting an MRI on his left wrist. Isn’t sure how he hurt it" - @MarkZuckerman
Clayton Kershaw
The Los Angeles Dodgers could soon be getting some reinforcements for their MLB rotation. Clayton Kershaw continues to ramp up his recovery process, throwing 3.0 innings during his first minor-league rehab assignment. Kershaw threw 36 pitches during his start and continues to be on track for an MLB return at some point in July.
Victor Caratini
Injuries have been something synonymous with the Houston Astros this season. Add Victor Caratini to the growing list of Astros players dealing with health issues. The catcher underwent imaging on his left quad and it remains to be seen if he will be placed on the IL at this point.
"Victor Caratini is getting imaging on his left quad today. Joe Espada said Caratini was “pretty sore” this morning. He termed it a potential IL situation but the Astros will wait on the test results" - @matthewkawahara
Abraham Toro
Abraham Toro has been a pleasant surprise for the Oakland Athletics this season, however, there is a chance that he could miss some games for the team moving forward. Toro is currently dealing with shoulder soreness but remains optimistic that he will be able to avoid an IL stint.
