After 23 weeks, the top 10 teams in the MLB power rankings have continued to prove why they have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. With one month of action remaining, there is still a chance that the power rankings could change. However, as August wraps up, there is a clear top 10. Let's dive in!
MLB Power Rankings
#10. Houston Astros (72-62)
Love them or hate them, the Houston Astros aren't going away just yet. The Astros have turned things around after a dismal start to the season, finding themselves atop the AL West.
An experienced, proven team such as the Astros could become a nightmare matchup for some teams in the playoffs. Nothing worse than a champion with their backs against the wall.
#9. Kansas City Royals (75-60)
Bobby Witt Jr. is having an MVP-worthy season, and as a result, the Kansas City Royals find themselves within reach of a playoff berth. While an injury to Vinnie Pasquantino might slow them down, they are still one of the most exciting teams to watch.
#8. San Diego Padres (76-60)
After a disappointing end to the 2023 campaign, Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres find themselves on the cusp of securing a playoff berth. "The Friars" are 12-8 in their last 20 games and have benefited from the emergence of potential Rookie of the Year Award winner Jackson Merrill. Will there be new kings of California this October?
#7. Cleveland Guardians (76-58)
After opening the season as one of the top teams in the American League, the Cleveland Guardians have cooled off significantly in recent weeks. That being said, never rule out a Guardian.
They still boast an impressive lineup that features the likes of Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor, making them a threat every night, so keep an eye on them at all times.
#6. Arizona Diamondbacks (76-58)
The Arizona Diamondbacks come in 6th on the MLB power rankings and have been red-hot lately, posting a 15-5 record in the last 20 games. Thanks to the return of pitchers Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodriguez, Torey Lovullo's squad is looking like the World Series runner-ups they were last season.
#5. Baltimore Orioles (77-58)
The Baltimore Orioles are the second-highest AL team on the power rankings after 23 weeks. Despite recent struggles, the Orioles are neck-and-neck with the New York Yankees as they battle for AL East supremacy.
Thanks to stars such as Gunnar Henderson and Corbin Burnes, the O's could climb the power rankings before the end of the season. There can only be one in the AL. Will it be the O's?
#4. Milwaukee Brewers (78-56)
The Milwaukee Brewers might not be the first team that pops to mind when asked about studly squads. However, the "Brew Crew" has been tremendous all season. They find themselves behind only three teams in the power rankings heading into September. Get your cheese ready, Wisconsin; it could be a long postseason for the Brewers!
#3. New York Yankees (78-56)
After 23 weeks, the New York Yankees have emerged as the top contender for the World Series out of the American League. Thanks to the potentially historic exploits of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto, the "Bronx Bombers" have found themselves as a legitimate threat to winning their first World Series since 2009.
#2. Philadelphia Phillies (79-55)
Only a one-game difference separates the Philadelphia Phillies and the first-placed Dodgers, with many believing that the two juggernauts could be destined for a postseason showdown. Can Bryce Harper and the company finally make it over the hump this year?
#1. Los Angeles Dodgers (80-54)
The Los Angeles Dodgers remain atop the power rankings after becoming the first team in the league to reach 80 wins this year. Thanks to the star-studded cast featuring the likes of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts, it's unsurprising to see the Dodgers rank as the best team in the MLB.
That being said, even the MLB's shiny top seed is not without its flaws. If Dave Roberts and Co. hope to bring a title to Hollywood, they'll need some production from the bottom half of the lineup and lady luck to smile upon them in terms of health.
