MLB rumours: Kinsler to Yankees for Torreyes following Stanton deal?

Giancarlo Stanton is a New York Yankee. In a blockbuster deal in which all of the players have still not yet been named, the Yankees acquired the slugger from the Miami Marlins over the weekend for second baseman Starlin Castro, pitcher Jorge Guzman, and infielder Jose Devers.

Guzman, 21, was the ninth-ranked prospect in the New York farm system and was acquired back in 2016 from the Houston Astros for Brian McCann. Devers, who is just 18 years old, was also highly touted in the Yankees farm system.

While the Yankees will be getting arguably one of the best hitters in the game today, they are losing a young and upcoming star in Castro. So now the question is, who will fill the void at second base?

Will the Yankees go with highly touted youngster Ronald Torreyes or trade for a veteran player like Detroit’s Ian Kinsler? Kinsler has been rumoured to be on the market now for several months, and striking a deal for Kinsler could be a good move for both teams, and here is why.

Detroit literally tore the team down last season by trading away big players, including Justin Upton, Alex Avila, JD Martinez, Justin Wilson and Justin Verlander. With the Yankees in “ready to win now” mode and the Tigers not knowing what kind of season they may have in 2018, this deal would make sense.

Kinsler would bring solid stability to New York. He is a well above average fielder and he still has a bit of pop left in his bat. The Yankees have already dealt away two top prospects to land Stanton, so dealing one more for Kinsler may not be that far-fetched. After a deal like this, you know that it is World Series or bust for New York.

Kinsler has also been rumoured in possible deals that could send him to the Mets or Angels.
