There exists a total of 30 teams in Major League Baseball (MLB). Each of these teams is owned by individuals or groups of individuals who play a role in governing and operating their franchises. As team owners they provide the support, strategic guidance and leadership to ensure the success and development of their teams.

Recently, in January 2024, a group led by David Rubenstein (founder of Carlyle Group) made the purchase of the Baltimore Orioles for a reported price of $1.725 billion.
Previous to this, a deal of Kansas City Royals was made in 2020 and John Sherman purchased the team for a reported amount of $1 billion. MLB approved the deal on November 21, 2019 and in 2020 he bought the majority stake of the team. Also, in the same year i.e. 2020, hedge fund manager Steve Cohen bought the majority stake of the New York Mets and became the new owner of the team.
