The Baltimore Orioles trading their top prospect, Jackson Holliday, who was picked first overall in the 2022 MLB draft, seems unrealistic. However, with the O's positioned well to make a deep run in the postseason, the idea of trading him for a high-quality asset is not that far-fetched.

The same thought was proposed by analyst Trevor Plouffe on "Baseball Today," saying the Orioles should trade Holliday for someone like Tarik Skubal. Holliday made his debut earlier this year but went 2 for 34 in his first 10 games, resulting in the O's sending him back to the minors.

With the July 30 trade deadline approaching, let's take a look at three teams that may go all-in to trade for Holliday.

3 teams who should trade for Jackson Holliday from Orioles

#1. Miami Marlins

There's no doubt that at this stage, the Marlins (35–64) are probably out of postseason contention and can use this trade deadline to acquire future assets while trading their star players on expiring contracts. Acquiring Jackson Holliday along with a few other draft picks will be a big plus for a unit that doesn't have a good farm system.

Holliday may have had a bad first stint in the majors, but his numbers in the minors suggest that he will come back stronger.

In return, the Marline can trade Tanner Scott, who will become a free agent next winter, in a package with one more additional propect.

#2. Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox are a slightly better trade partner for the Orioles as they seek a starting arm ahead of this deadline. Garrett Crochet is having a career year and is likely to be dealt. With the Orioles struck with injuries to Kyle Bradish, Tyler Wells and John Means for the season, the AL East leaders don't have much to boast about outside Corbin Burnes.

A trade for Crochet should be the one looked into by the Orioles, though they may face stiff competition from big-market teams such as the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In return, the White Sox receive baseball's top prospect coupled with a few draft picks, which should help them become competitive in the seasons to come.

#3. Detroit Tigers

This may already be on the table, with reports suggesting that the Orioles are willing to trade anyone to acquire AL Cy Young contender Tarik Skubal, and that may also include Jackson Holliday. This seems obvious, given the urgency the Orioles face in their rotation going into the deadline.

Detroit seems to have an upper hand in this trade since Skubal is under the team's control until the 2026 season. However, if they were to build a competitive team sooner, they must be thinking about tapping into the thirst of the Orioles. This means looking for future prospects like Jackson Holliday and some others to be competitive in three to four years.
