Though there may not be a Juan Soto-esque blockbuster deal like there was last offseason, the 2024 MLB offseason has the potential to be full of major trades. Several All-Star-level players could be available. Here are five that make the most sense.
5 stars who could be traded this MLB offseason
5) Zack Littell
Zack Littell had a dependable season for the Tampa Bay Rays last year. However, the team wasn't good and they're a little bit aimless right now. They don't have any stars left after trading Randy Arozarena and Tyler Glasnow, not to mention losing Wander Franco for his off-field actions.
To do a hard reset, everyone on the team might be a trade candidate, and Littell would likely be in high demand as a quality starter.
4) Alec Bohm
Alec Bohm had a disappointing second half after being an All-Star in the first half of the MLB season. The Philadelphia Phillies are in a win-now window with an aging roster that is generally much older than Bohm.
Of young players who could go to rebuilding teams, Bohm makes the most sense. He's talented, cheap, and not yet 29. It would be an MLB player swap to give the Phillies more talent and give a worse team something to build around.
3) Luis Arraez
Luis Arraez has been with three teams in three years, but it could be four in four years by the start of the MLB season. The San Diego Padres expressed a desire to cut payroll down, and Arraez will make $13.7 million in 2025.
With players like Michael King and Jackson Merrill needing lengthy, lucrative extensions sooner rather than later, some players are going to be the odd men out. Arraez, who possesses rare bat-to-ball skills, might be the best option to give the Padres a nice return while saving some money.
2) Garrett Crochet
Garrett Crochet is likely to be the most sought-after trade candidate. A bonafide ace, Crochet is still under team control for a few years and is very inexpensive. It will cost a haul of prospects, but it won't impact the payroll very much.
The Chicago White Sox need to tear it all down, and that likely begins with a trade of Crochet among other players. He had a lot of suitors at the deadline and that figures to increase this offseason.
1) Cody Bellinger
Of all players this offseason, former MVP Cody Bellinger is the most likely. He's on an expensive contract, one that the Chicago Cubs want to move off of, and the team isn't exactly contending right now.
The New York Yankees have reportedly shown interest. In other reports, it has been stated that the Cubs have been calling everyone and offering Bellinger. It seems like a matter of when not if for a Bellinger deal this offseason.
