Justin Verlander once spoke about his and his wife Kate Upton's couple workout sessions in an exclusive in 2018. The couple had fun sessions where both motivated and pushed each other to the limits.
The star pitcher further detailed how he spends most of his workout time.
"My ideal workout is me yelling at her to work harder while I don't work out," Verlander told Menshealth-dot-com. "And she likes doing the same thing."
Meanwhile, Upton also shared a clip of her multi-tasking: working out while trying to catch her partner Justin Verlander in action during a start.
The video, posted on Sept. 27, 2017, by Upton's trainer Ben Bruno, and later reposted on her page, showed Upton trying to concentrate on her workout while catching a glimpse of her then-fiance Verlander. The model-turned-actress was doing deadlifts with the TV switched on in front of her and her husband pitching for the Astros.
"When you and @kateupton wanna watch @justinverlander pitch but it's leg day," Bruno captioned the post.
Verlander had made his start against the Texas Rangers on that day with 6.0 innings of pitching and earning just two runs. This was the starter's first month with the Houston Astros after getting traded by his long-term team the Detroit Tigers ahead of the waiver-trade deadline.
It was also a special year for Upton and Verlander as the couple got hitched in November 2017. The wedding was held two days after the couple celebrated Verlander's first-ever World Series win as the Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Fall Classic. The pair got married in a church in Tuscany.
Kate Upton's love for baseball increased as she saw her partner
Kate Upton gathered interest in baseball all thanks to her husband. When she appeared on the "Chicks in the Office" podcast in July, Verlander's better half spoke about her excitement watching her partner do well on the field. The nervousness translates into joy and Upton can cheer him on every step of the way.
“To watch someone you love out there and have no control, it was a totally new experience, and so it already started this nervous energy running through me like, ‘Oh no’! And you want them to do well and you want them to feel good, you know, he’s my husband. I want him to come home and be happy and not be disappointed in how he played or what happened,” Upton said on the podcast.
Verlander is currently a free agent. He had a damaging 2024 season, the worst of his career so far, going 5-6 with a 5.48 ERA. However, as history has indicated, it doesn't take him long to get into a groove after a rough patch. Both he and Upton will be hoping for the same next year.
