The New York Mets could not get a handle on the Milwaukee Brewers in their second series of the season. The team lost a heartbreaker 7-6 on Wednesday as rookie Garrett Mitchell delivered a solo walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
Wednesday's game was much closer than the series' first two games, with the Mets blanked 10-0 and 9-0, which was tough to watch for fans.
This isn't how the Mets envisioned this series going. They just couldn't stop the Brewers' offensive surge. Brian Anderson and Garrett Mitchell went back-to-back off of ace Max Scherzer twice on Tuesday.
The Mets will have to return to the drawing board before their series with the Miami Marlins on Thursday. They can't afford another series sweep. Not with how hot the Atlanta Braves have started off.
"This team deserves all the jokes and memes about them," one fan tweeted.
"This series has sucked lol. I'm not even feeling the home opener. Onto the next one," tweeted another fan.
New York Mets fans are distraught with the team's start. They built up too much momentum in the offseason to fall flat on their faces. The team needs to shake off this sweep by the Milwaukee Brewers and focus on the next series.
If the team doesn't turn it around quickly, some fans will jump ship. They desperately need Justin Verlander to get healthy.
The New York Mets can't afford another sweep like the Milwaukee Brewers just served them
The New York Mets don't have time to think about their team's performance against the Milwaukee Brewers. They have to get ready to face a divisional foe, the Marlins.
This is a great opportunity for the Mets to put some distance between themselves and Miami in the division. Currently, both teams sit at 3-4 on the young season. Both teams are two games behind the Braves, who lead the division.
Tylor Megill is slated to take the ball for the Mets in game one, while Miami will turn to Edward Cabrera. Megill is 1-0 against the Marlins this season already. He pitched five innings, striking out seven batters in Saturday's 6-2 win.
Cabrera also pitched when the two teams faced each other on Saturday. Cabrera lasted only four innings before being pulled. He struggled to find his command as he walked six batters and gave up two runs.
