The 2024 MLB Playoffs are set for their next stage as the wildcard stage concluded on Friday. Four teams have progressed from the wildcard stages to the division series, while four teams were eliminated from the playoffs.
The Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and San Diego Padres progressed to the division series on Thursday, while the New York Mets became the latest team to advance in the playoffs after a thrilling win over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
The Mets were the only team to need a third game in the wild card series as all the other teams swept their opponents to advance to the division series. Meanwhile, the Tigers, arguably, pulled off the result of the series by eliminating the Houston Astros.
With the MLB set to commence the next round of the postseason on Saturday, we look at the playoff bracket:
ALDS
Kansas City Royals vs New York Yankees (AL East winners)
Detroit Tigers vs Cleveland Guardians (AL Central winners)
NLDS
New York Mets vs Philadelphia Phillies (NL East winners)
San Diego Padres vs Los Angeles Dodgers (NL West winners)
How do MLB teams stack in the playoffs so far
The ALDS and NLDS commence on Friday with the division winners (Yankees, Guardians, Dodgers, and Phillies) holding home advantage for the opening two matchups of the five-game series.
The opponents will have the home advantage for the next two games before the series finale, if it extends to Game 5, comes back to the same venue as the opening two games.
The winners of the division series will move on to the championship series. While the NLCS is set to commence on October 12, the ALCS gets on a day later, on the 13th. It will be a best-of-seven series.
The ALCS and NLCS winners will clash for the ultimate battle in the World Series set to commence on October 24 and will be a seven-game series to decide the Commissioner's Trophy winners for this season.
The Dodgers and the Phillies remain favorites to go all the way this season but only one of them is going to appear in the World Series, with both NL teams expected to clash in the NLCS.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are another strong contender for the title this season but they face a tricky opposition in the Royals in the ALDS and will be up against either the Guardians or the Tigers in the ALCS.
