Top 5 shocking moments from the 2024 MLB Season
5. Mariners fan catches two consecutive foul balls
It was a trademark Seattle overcast day when the Mariners welcomed the Kansas City Royals to T-Mobile Park on May 13. In the bottom of the first inning, KC starter Brady Singer delivered a pitch to Seattle hitter Josh Rojas. Rojas lined the ball into the left field bleachers - right into the bread basket of a fan. On the very next pitch, Rojas flew the ball out to left field - prompting the same exact fan to make the catch. Whatever the odds of that sequence happening were - perhaps they inspired the fan bought a ticket to the Washington State lottery after the game.
"A Seattle Mariners fan caught a foul ball on BACK-TO-BACK PITCHES, deep down the left field line at T-Mobile Park. The amazing feat as seen and heard on the Root Sports Northwest Mariners broadcast." - Awful Announcing
4. White Sox handed their 21st straight loss
As recently as 2021, the Chicago White Sox won 93 games to clinch the AL Central. Three years later, the club failed to reach half that sum.
On August 5, the Sox took the field against the Oakland Athletics hoping to avoid a 21st straight loss that would tie them with the 1988 Orioles for the sixth-longest losing streak in MLB history. An RBI single from Andrew Benintendi would be all the offense that Chicago could conjure, and the club ended up losing 5-1. The White Sox would go on to lose 121 games, marking an MLB record for all the wrong reasons.
3. Jose Siri vs Abner Uribe
The April 30 showdown between the Tampa Bay Rays and Milwaukee Brewers was civil until the eighth inning, when things quickly became unhinged.
In the eighth inning, Jose Siri grounded out on a pitch from reliever Abner Uribe. Perhaps unbeknownst to Siri, the Rays outfielder was already a marked man after Brewers starter Freddy Peralta took umbrage with his celebration after a solo shot earlier in the game.
"Abner Uribe and Jose Siri GOT AFTER IT in a benches clearing fight @StoolBaseball" - Barstool Sports
After Siri grounded out to first, Uribe began throwing some words in Siri's direction. Soon thereafter, Abner Uribe threw a punch at his countryman, which resulted in a bench-clearing brawl, and one of the most shocking moments from the 2024 MLB season.
2. Jarren Duran's colorful language
Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran is known to wear his heart on his sleeve. In the sixth inning of a game against the Astros at Fenway Park on August 11, with his team down 10-0, Duran stepped to the plate. On the broadcast feed, a heckler can be heard shouting 'tennis racket!' The words were not appreciated by Duran, who engaged in a colorful epithet to hit back. Without referencing exactly what was said, the outfielder was subsequently banned for two games on account of the interaction.

1 Mookie Betts vs Yankees fan
The mother of the author - bless her - does not know the first thing about MLB baseball. It is for this reason that getting her to sit down to watch Game 4 of the World Series was quite a rarity.
""Well, A for effort." Fan interference was called on this play where a Yankee fan tried to take the ball out of Mookie Betts' glove after an out." - FOX Sports: MLB
In the bottom of the first inning, New York Yankees hitter Gleyber Torres lined a foul ball deep into left field. As Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts tracked the ball down, a Yankees fan grabbed the former MVP's glove and attempted to remove it from Betts' glove.
This caused the author's mother to ask if fans could participate in the game - to which she received the obvious answer. However, if you ask the culprit, Austin Capobianco of Connecticut, it would appear that fan interaction is indeed part of the game.
