The MLB trade deadline has passed, and most teams are finished with their postseason preparations. Many have solidified their rosters, while some teams missed their chances to make some big moves before July 30.
Among the most injury-plagued teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers tried to strengthen their pitching staff, which has many players recovering from injuries. Several other teams have made similar efforts.
Here is a closer look at some of the most impactful trades made by teams during the MLB trade deadline period.
5 teams with the best trade deadline business this season
#1. Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles didn’t have many big additions, but they did make some key ones. They added right-handed pitcher Zach Eflin, lefty Trevor Rogers and another lefty Gregory Soto, which should help their rotation.
The AL East leaders also acquired Eloy Jimenez and some cash while trading Trey McGough. They are in a good spot for the postseason while retaining most of their top prospects.
#2. Los Angeles Dodgers
With injured pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Clayton Kershaw returning from the IL and Walker Buehler close to coming back, the Los Angeles Dodgers made several additions to address their needs.
The club acquired right-handed pitchers Jack Flaherty and Michael Kopech, along with center fielder Kevin Kiermaier, utility player Tommy Edman and shortstop Amed Rosario.
#3. Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels received prospects Samuel Aldegheri and George Klassen in return for trading Carlos Estevez to the Philadelphia Phillies. Although they are not top Phillies prospects they have been showing improvements.
The Angels added four more prospects in their trade of right-handed pitcher Luis Garcia who was set to become free agent after the season.
#4. New York Yankees
The New York Yankees, like many other teams, are getting players back from injuries and adding new talent through trades. Giancarlo Stanton’s return from the injured list – along with the addition of Jazz Chisholm Jr. – adds more depth and power to their lineup.
On the pitching side, the Yankees acquired right-handers Mark Leiter Jr. and Enyel De Los Santos, as well as minor leaguer Kelly Austin through trades.
#5. St. Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals also had some good trades acquiring starter Erick Fedde, outfielder Tommy Pham and some cash considerations. Fedde is under team contract for next season that too at a low cost and could prove to be a valuable addition to the team.
