Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and US soccer star Mallory Swanson (née Pugh) are a power couple in the sports world. The two-time MLB All-Star and World Series champion tied the knot with the national soccer team player on December 10, 2022.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, Dansby Swanson commemorated the couple's second anniversary with a series of pictures. Dansby posted photos of him and Mallory through their two-year journey as a couple, topped off by a brief but heartfelt caption.
"2 years down. A lifetime to go. I love you" - @ dansbyswanson
The now-couple met through a blind date set up by Mallory's brother-in-law Jace Peterson. Jace is married to Mallory's sister, Brianna, and was a teammate of Dansby at the time when the two met in 2017.
After five years, Dansby and Mallory tied the knot at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia. Although the couple played in different cities when they wedded, they are now settled in Chicago. Dansby chose to sign with the Cubs in 2023, while Mallory has starred for NWSL's Chicago Red Stars since 2021.
Dansby Swanson kept mum about injury during 2024 season
Known for his Iron Man-like abilities to stay on the field, Chicago Cubs star Dansby Swanson recently underwent surgery to cure a sports hernia that bugged him throughout the 2024 season. He has only missed 30 games in the last four seasons combined and even led all the majors in games played in 2022 having missed none.
During the MLB Winter Meetings, Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell disclosed to the media that the star shortstop battled through injury but persisted on playing the course of the season.
"It was an injury that nagged at him throughout the year. Look, he played, right? So it was an injury that he was able to play with, but it was also an injury that just makes it hard, right?" Counsell said via the Marquee Sports Network.
Counsell also stated that he had no knowledge of how Dansby Swanson managed to stay on the field despite the hernia.
"I don't have an answer as to how much it affected him, but it was an injury that required surgery. I think he'll be in a better place next year without having to deal with it," Counsell said.
