After the New York Yankees managed to win against the Tampa Bay Rays, Aaron Boone had a career-high winning percentage, boosting from .599 to .600. Boone's lifetime record has now become 318-212 as the Yankees wash out the Rays with a 6-1 score.
Boone is the 10th manager to have reached a 60% winning percentage in the major league. Also, if the managers who didn't play any games post-1900, including the managers who only played for the Negro Leagues, the number gets limited to 3 managers with that high percentage.
So, Boone has entered one of those rare elite managers with a great record going for himself, despite receiving all of the backlash online. Boone has joined the group of great managers like Dave Roberts and Joe McCarthy. Roberts holds the .618 winning rate, while McCarthy boasts it to be .615.
The Yankees currently hold the second position in the American League, right behind the Baltimore Orioles. If the Yankees maintain this rhythm, then there's a high chance of them making it to the playoffs.
There have been many talks on the internet about relieving Aaron Boone from the team. However, if the Yankees get qualified for the World Series, it'll suppress a lot of bickering going on online and Boone might continue to be the Yankees manager for the coming seasons.
Aaron Boone slams back at Luis Severino for his comments
In a pre-series interview, New York Mets pitcher Luis Severino, a former Yankee, started some friendly competition between his former teammates. Severino jokingly remarked that the Yankees "only have two good hitters." He was referencing the star player duo of Aaron Judge and Juan Soto.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone acknowledged the team's strong offensive showing this season, by mentioning their position on the leaderboards. Moreover, he took a jab at Severino by mentioning that they also lead in runs scored, so the remark doesn't make much sense to him.
"Lets see where the dust settles when we're all said and done," said Boone. "Add it all up, we've taken our lumps at times, but I think we're at the top of the league probably in runs scored. I saw the way Sevy said it...hopefully we can answer him."
Early in this season, the New York Yankees led all of MLB with 494 runs scored. However, there was a drop in June, with only 152 runs in 27 games, ranking them third in the majors.
But in July, the team mustered 57 runs in just 13 games, which tied them for the 18th-most in MLB history.
