New York Yankees Hall of Famer Derek Jeter joined the team on August 24 during their Old-Timers' Day. The event celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Yankees' 2009 World Series victory, with many fan-favorite players from the '09 team in attendance.

Former Yankees captain Jeter is well aware of current captain Aaron Judge’s prowess at the plate. Judge, who is leading the majors with 49 home runs, garnered praise from his predecessor, who said:

“I don't know why they keep pitching to him but it's fun to watch."

Jeter was immediately playfully called out by the reporter, who stated that Yankees manager Aaron Boone 'doesn't want you to say that out loud,' to which he replied:

“Oh yeah, keep pitching, keep pitching to him.”

Derek Jeter called it 'ridiculous' to pitch to Aaron Judge while also highlighting his turnaround season after initial struggles at the start of the 2024 campaign. Jeter compared Judge to legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Barry Bonds.

During a recent interview, when Aaron Judge was asked about people comparing him to legends like Barry Bonds, he said:

"It's not real. I try not to think about it. Even they would say a lot of the Yankee greats here - Mantle, DiMaggio, Maris, Babe Ruth. It's tough to comprehend or even think about."

Derek Jeter admired Aaron Judge addressing the legacy he upholds as a Yankee

Aaron Judge is on pace for 60 homers this 2024 season for the second time in his career. He has been a big contributor to the New York Yankees' success so far in the 2024 season. Discussing about his legacy as a Yankee, Derek Jeter said (via SNY):

“I personally can’t relate to it. It’s amazing, it seems like he just continues to get better and better. He’s fun to watch and he’s carried that legacy and tradition of the Yankee organization and superstar players, and he’s a great representative of this organization. I’ve enjoyed getting to know him and I’m a fan of his and what he’s been able to accomplish.”

The Bronx Bombers (76-54) are .585 while leading the AL East. After losing Saturday’s game 9-2, they will face the Colorado Rockies in their series finale on Sunday.
