Aaron Hicks gets no support from New York Yankees fans after requesting more playing time: "He hasn't made contact with a baseball in four years"

Where is Aaron Hicks? After setting off to a 2-1 start to the season, the New York Yankees are looking like they have successfully picked up from where they left off in 2022.

Aaron Judge has a pair of home runs, Gerrit Cole maintained that he is one of the best, and 2019 first-rounder Anthony Volpe has made a solid rookie impression.

Although the team is riding high, there is one player who has not joined in on the fun. Aaron Hicks, 33, made 130 appearances in the New York Yankees outfield last season and hit .293 in spring training.

In the Yankees' first series of the season against the San Francisco Giants, Hicks wasly substituted in one game and featured in one at-bat. Aaron Hicks split his time evenly between left and center field last year. Thus far, Yankees manager Aaron Boone has played both Aaron Judge, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and even rookie Oswaldo Cabrera in the position.

In a recent piece for The Athletic, writer Brendan Kuty caught up with Hicks to see how he feels about being excluded from the Yankees lineup.

""I just want to play. I don’t want to come off the bench and face closers all day. I want to play the field, I want to play everyday, and it’s just what I want to do." - Aaron Hicks

Despite the longing words from Aaron Hicks, Yankees fans do not appear to have a great amount of patience for Hicks, who has been in the pinstripes since 2016.

The beginning of the end transpired for Hicks last season, when the New York Yankees acquired center fielder Harrison Bader from the St. Louis Cardinals. Although Bader is currently injured, he is almost certain to resume the center field spot on his return.

Many fans are blaming Hicks' own recent performances rather than any sort of managerial incompetence. Hicks has not batted .250 since 2017 and has not registered more than 40 RBIs since the 2018 season.

Logistics are not on the side of Aaron Hicks in 2023

After a spring training campaign that was dominated by youngsters within the organization, an aged player like Hicks is looking less and less attractive to fans.

Unfortunately, for his detractors, Hicks still has three seasons left on his $70 million deal with the New York Yankees, and offloading him is no easy task for the team.

The Yankees are in the fortunate position of having more skill than they can accommodate. While Hicks can continue to be a solid bench player for the team, his chances of ascending to the starting nine on the Yankees this season continue to look incredibly slim.
