Anthony Rizzo is currently looking for a new contract ahead of the 2025 season, but he and his wife, Emily Vakos, have exciting news to share. Taking to Instagram on Thursday, Rizzo shared the news that they are expecting a baby.
Rizzo tagged his wife Emily in the picture, while also showing off his dog Kevin. The All-Star first basemen broke the news in a comical way:
"Kev dog is gonna be a big brother!!!!@rizzoem 💙💙💙💙."
Aaron Judge has been a longtime teammate of Rizzo at the New York Yankees, and he was one of the first to comment on the exciting news:
"Let's goo," Judge said.
Judge wasn't the only player to leave a comment, as Detroit Lions second baseman Gleyber Torres also celebrated the good news:
"Yeeeeees."
Anthony Rizzo was part of the Yankees team that made it to the World Series last season, but is now a free agent. Rizzo is still a productive player, although he only hit 8 home runs in 2024, with a .228 batting average, and his free agency is an interesting subject.
Anthony Rizzo & Aaron Judge attend US Open together
The bond between Anthony Rizzo and Aaron Judge extends beyond the baseball field. In August, the two sluggers attended the US Open in New York together, along with their wives. The then-New York Yankees hitters were photographed sipping drinks while watching the action close to the court.
There is still an outside chance that the Yankees will re-sign Anthony Rizzo ahead of the 2025 season, but all signs point to him moving on. Rizzo is also being linked to the New York Mets, Miami Marlins and Chicago Cubs, with him winning a World Series with the latter in 2016. The Mets are being touted as the favorites to sign Rizzo at the time of writing, with Pete Alonso looking like moving on.
With the MLB season creeping closer steadily, it will be interesting to see who signs Rizzo, and what kind of contract he will garner in 2025.
