Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees would be disappointed, as they were unable to get a win at Dodger Stadium in two games in the Los Angeles leg of the World Series. Judge and Co. will have to put up a better effort in New York to keep their hopes alive.
On Saturday, neither Yankees starter Carlos Rodon nor the offense seemed to have any rythym. Rodon gave up three home runs in two innings and was chased out of the game after 3.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile ,the lineup recorded just one hit against the Dodgers' Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a solo home run by Juan Soto in third inning.
The Bombers tried to make a game out of it in the top of the ninth against reliever Blake Treinen. It was Soto, again, who led off the innings with a single to deep right field.
Aaron Judge struck out, but Giancarlo Stanton hit an RBI single to plate Soto. Trade acquisition Jazz Chisholm Jr. grinded out a single on a full count. Treinen then hit Anthony Rizzo to load the bases. But Anthony Volpe struck out, and Alex Vesia got Jose Trevino on a flyout to end the game.
Despite the disappointment, Judge is certain that they will have the crowd's backing in the next few games at home. Postseason in Bronx almost always serves up classics, and with a rowdy New York crowd, the Dodgers will have work cut out.
"We're excited. The fans are going to be rowdy. They're going to have our back, from the first pitch all the way to the 9th," Judge said.
Aaron Judge unsatisfied with his effort despite 'feeling better'
One of the reasons why the Yankees haven't been able to get runs on the board is because their captain Aaron Judge has had a forgetful postseson. He's hitting at .150 with 19 strikeouts in 40 at-bats. He acknowledged he felt better but knows that he has to complete his role.
""Felt better, but, like I said, it comes down to, I've got to get the job done," Judge said.
The Yankees have all the odds stacked against them. In 56 instances when a team has led 2-0 in the World Series, they have gone on to win 45 times. The Dodgers will hope to win at least one game to keep their advantage if the series comes back to LA for Games 6 and 7.
