Paul Goldschmidt may be on the backend of this MLB career, however, he might now have the best opportunity to win his first World Series title. The 37-year-old is the newest member of the New York Yankees after agreeing to a one-year, $12.5 million deal.
While Goldschmidt may no longer be the MVP he was in 2022, he is still an effective player who should make an impact for the Yankees in 2025. The move not only presents the seven-time All-Star with a legitimate opportunity to win the World Series but also a chance to play with one of the game's best players: Aaron Judge.
In an interview with SNY, Goldschmidt spoke about this excitement about joining the Yankees and more specifically, playing alongside Judge.
"He's one of the best hitters in the world, maybe the best hitter. As a right-handed power-hitter, a guy that that I've very very excited to play with and get to see him work everyday and he's just one of the best," Goldschmidt said of playing with the Yankees superstar.
It will be interesting to see how the Yankees fare in 2025 given the number of significant moves they have already made. Even though the club was unable to re-sign Juan Soto in free agency, they landed Paul Goldschmidt, as well as traded for Cody Bellinger from the Chicago Cubs.
Paul Goldschmidt should help address an area of weakness for the Yankees
The loss of Juan Soto will be significant, however, veteran additions such as Paul Goldschmidt will likely be able to help address areas of weakness that plagued the team last season.
In 2024, the Yankees received limited production from first base as former stars such as Anthony Rizzo and DJ LeMahieu struggled at the plate, something that the team is hoping Goldschmidt will change.
Last season with the St. Louis Cardinals, Goldschmidt posted a .245 batting average with 22 home runs, 65 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. Even though his level of production has dipped with age, he should provide the Yankees with quality production in the middle of the lineup.
