The 2025 MLB season is rapidly approaching, however, it remains to be seen where Alex Bregman will be playing. The two-time World Series champion is one of the biggest names remaining on the open market as he looks to secure a long-term deal.
The talented third baseman has been an elite player on both sides of the field, earning both a Gold Glove Award and a Silver Slugger Award throughout his nine-year career. There is no doubt that Alex Bregman will land a new deal before the new season begins, however, it's only a matter of where and for how much he will sign.
Even though his new contract remains a big question mark, the long-time Houston Astros third baseman has been keeping himself prepared for the new campaign. The two-time All-Star showcased some of his offseason work on his Instagram story, tagging the high-performance baseball facility, Nemesis Baseball.
The work that Bregman is putting in now will be important as his agent Scott Boras has been willing to drag contract negotiations deep into the offseason. Last offseason, players such as Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery did not have enough time to be fully prepared for the new season since their negotiations dragged on.
While there is a difference between the ramp-up for pitchers and hitters, the fact that Alex Bregman has been busy grinding away could be huge for his next club. The 30-year-old has been rather durable throughout his career, playing in 145 games or more in six seasons. This is the type of work that has helped with his ability to stay on the field.
Alex Bregman is reportedly not interested in signing a short-term deal with a higher annual salary
There are a number of clubs reportedly interested in Bregman's services, including the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox. However, if they are hoping to land him, they will need to provide him some security. According to the third baseman's agent Scott Boras via MLB insider Bob Nightengale, Bregman is not interested in signing a short-term deal.
While other top free agents such as Pete Alonso have shown a willingness to sign a short-term deal with a high average annual salary, this is not the case for Bregman. It remains to be seen exactly what he is looking for, however, the two-time World Series champion reportedly rejected a six-year, $150 million deal from the Houston Astros earlier this offseason.
