Alex Bregman has been linked with the Boston Red Sox since the start of the offseason. The ties have been made closer because Bregman shared a close relationship with Red Sox manager Alex Cora at the Houston Astros in the 2017 season when he was the bench coach in the team.

Appearing on "The Mayor's Office," Cora made his feelings known about what he felt of the third baseman amid the various rumors of him joining the Red Sox.

"He's a good player, man," Cora said (Timestamp: 25:51). "He's a guy that, since he got there in 2016, to Houston, the way he goes about his business and this is not about like intangibles, right? He's a good player."
"There’s a lot of guys out there that can be good leaders and there’s a lot of good free agents out there that can help. That’s the bottom line. But everybody knows, he’s a good player and he can impact any franchise and help him win," he added (Timestamp: 26:11).

Cora also commented on how Bregman has been open to playing in different positions in the diamond. Much of the talk surrounding the Red Sox and the Gold Glove winner has been about the need to shift the positions of players like Rafael Devers and Triston Casas if he is brought in.

MLB insider dismisses Alex Bregman joining the Boston Red Sox

USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently stated that the Boston Red Sox have distanced themselves from Alex Bregman. The primary reason stated was their pursuit of Toronto Blue Jays infielder Vladimir Guerrero Jr. As per Nightengale, Boston will sign him if the extension negotiations with Toronto break.

Nightengale also commented on how general manager Craig Breslow isn't going all in because of the infield shifting they would have to do.

"Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has been vocal in his desire to sign him, and the team has spent only $52.5 million. Yet, with Rafael Devers not wanting to move from third base, Triston Casas at first base, and Vaughn Grissom and top infield prospects on the way at second base, GM Craig Breslow is hesitant," Nightengale wrote.

A number of other teams, like the Detroit Tigers, the San Francisco Giants, and even the New York Mets, are linked to Bregman. The two-time All-Star has proven his worth at the plate, and his recent successes in defense have made him one of the best infielders in the game.
