On a recent appearance on the "MLB Central" show, Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora recently named New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor as his favourite non-Red Sox player. Both Cora and Lindor hail from Caguas in Puerto Rico.
Francsico Lindor has had a fine season for the Mets so far, excelling on both the defensive and offensive side of the game. The leadoff hitter is batting .270, with 31 home runs and 86 RBIs in the 2024 season. The 30-year-old's strong performance has led to shouts of a potential NL MVP award for him, challenging Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for the title.
In a segment of the show called "Hardball," where the guest is asked a series of questions by the presenter, Cora named his favorite player outside of his own team.
"Francisco Lindor. Just the passion, the joy that he plays the game [with]. He's from my home town too. He posts [too]. He did a great job against us (Red Sox) last weekend." (0:45)
Francisco Lindor returns to Mets lineup after injury
New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor is set to make his return to action in Sunday's series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The 30 year old was given a day off after reportedly suffering from back tightness on Saturday.
The SNY Mets account on X, formerly known as Twitter, posted confirmation of Lindor's return to the lineup shortly before the game against the Phillies began.
Lindor was replaced in the lineup by Luisangel Acuna, who is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr., who was called up from triple-A Syracuse to make his major league debut. Lindor, in turn, is set to replace Acuna for today's game.
After the Phillies came back from a four-run deficit to win Saturday's game 6-4, the Mets will be aiming to clinch the series with a win in the final game on Sunday. Left-handed pitcher David Peterson takes to the mound, as he aims to put a rough start in Toronto behind him and show the kind of quality he has otherwise performed at this season.
