Former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez took to social media to express his thoughts and prayers to the victims of the Los Angeles area wildfires.
The wildfires started around Monday, leaving more than 2,000 structures destroyed and 130,000 evacuated residents, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Amid the chaos and destruction, Rodriguez posted this prayer for the victims of the fires:
In the caption, A-Rod stated:
”Praying for everyone in LA. Devastating to see all the loss. Please stay safe.”
Rodriguez played hundreds of games in Los Angeles as part of his career with the Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Texas Rangers.
The Los Angeles Times reported favorable weather conditions, potentially signaling a turnaround in relief efforts.
As a result of the fires, the NHL has suspended games in Los Angeles, while the NFL maintains a close watch as the Los Angeles Rams are set to play next Monday night as part of the wild-card round.
Looking at Alex Rodriguez’s career against Los Angeles-based teams
In his career, Alex Rodriguez played against both Los Angeles-based teams, the Dodgers and Angels. However, he played the Angels far more than he did against the Dodgers.
Against the Dodgers, A-Rod appeared in 18 games from 1997 to 2010. In 68 plate appearances, he hit two dingers and drove in nine runs to go with a double.
In contrast, Alex Rodriguez appeared in over 200 games against the Angels. In total, he appeared in 207 games against them, racking up 806 at-bats, hitting 70 round-trippers, and accruing 169 RBIs. He also managed an impressive .319 batting average on 1.036 OPS.
Ultimately, Rodriguez played far more games against the Angels than the Dodgers as he spent his entire career in the American League.
The Yankees and Dodgers never met in the postseason during Rodriguez’s tenure in the Bronx. While that would have been something truly special, fans had to wait till 2024 to see baseball’s two most iconic franchises go head-to-head in the Fall Classic.
