New York Mets' All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor was all praise for the team's new special assistant Carlos Beltrán in a recent interview.
Lindor joined anchor Gary Apple on SNY TV's "Mets Hot Stove" on Feb. 22 and spoke about Beltrán and how he would be a major asset to the New York Mets in the upcoming MLB season.
"He has so much wisdom and is valuable to any franchise. He is valuable to the game. He brings not just on-field perspective but off the field [as well]," said Lindor when asked about the importance of having Beltran in the operations department.
Lindor also acknowledged Carlos Beltrán's career highs and lows and how the experience he brings to the table will benefit the New York Mets:
"He has had good times, bad times, a big market, small market. Took him forever to win a championship. He won a championship and had some rough times after that. I think that itself elevates a person to a different level. And having someone like that in the franchise is gonna be helpful."
The last three years have been a struggle for former New York Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran
Puerto Rican outfielder Carlos Beltrán made his MLB debut in the 1998 season with the Kansas City Royals, who picked him in the second round of the 1995 draft before sending him out to the rookie leagues.
Beltrán joined the Houston Astros in 2004 before signing up with the New York Mets as a free agent in 2005. He played for the San Francisco Giants in 2011, and a season later, he went to the St. Louis Cardinals. Beltrán was with the New York Yankees from 2014 to 2016, and in 2017, he signed with the Astros for his second stint with the club.
It really did take Beltrán forever to win a World Series ring. After playing for 19 MLB seasons, he finally won the championship title in 2017 with the Houston Astros and retired after achieving the feat.
On Nov. 1, 2019, the New York Mets hired Beltrán to take Mickey Callaway's position as manager. However, in January 2020, it was discovered that the Astros had breached MLB regulations during the 2017 season.
The MLB implicated Beltrán in the Astros' sign-stealing operation, and the Mets parted ways with Beltrán without him managing a single game.
After two years of no work and being absent from the major league picture, YES Network hired Carlos Beltrán as an analyst on Jan. 28, 2022. The Mets rehired Carlos Beltrán on Feb. 6, 2023, and announced that he would work as an assistant to General Manager Billy Eppler.
