Bobby Witt Jr. is one of the best players in baseball. The star third-year player is a legitimate MVP candidate this season, and all that success and talent comes from a variety of places. One of the places is his upbringing, which he credits to his 'four moms.'
Witt didn't have four legitimate mothers, but he was helped by his birth mother, Laurie, and his three older sisters Nikki, Kianna, and Shaley. They are who helped mold him into the star baseball player he is today, and he's honoring them on Players Weekend.
The Kansas City Royals star said:
“They always pushed me to want to be the best I possibly can be, and then they're always there for me to comfort me whenever I need it.”
The superstar is enjoying a career year fresh off an 11-year extension worth $288 million with the Royals. He's in a heated battle with Aaron Judge for the AL MVP this season.
Bobby Witt Jr.'s family shouts out Royals star
Bobby Witt Jr. has grown into a superstar in baseball. It's something that not everyone has been able to watch happen, but his family has been there from the beginning. They gave him praise as they remarked on his journey.
Shaley, one of the 'four moms', said:
“It’s funny, because he’s definitely grown and gotten bigger. But to me, he still just has that little kid’s face. … He is a man now, but, personality-wise, he hasn’t changed much, which I think is just incredible with everything that’s come with all his accomplishments and accolades. He’s still just my little kid dorky brother that I’ve always known.”
Nikki, another sister, said:
“He was an unbelievable kid. Just humble, always, like how he is now. Kind. He was very shy. I do a lot of the talking, which is probably why he doesn’t talk.”
Witt can let his game do the talking now. He's leading baseball in batting average by a wide margin and is tied for the lead in fWAR. Whether or not he wins MVP, this has been a season for the ages.
