On Thursday, former Miami Marlins president David Samson talked about Giancarlo Stanton and the New York Yankees. The Yankees are currently playing the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS.

Samson acted as the president of the Marlins from 2002 to 2017, and the Marlins won a World Series in 2003 under his presidency. Currently, the 56-year-old runs his own podcast on YouTube.

On October 10's episode of 'Nothing Personal with David Samson', the former executive talked about Giancarlo Stanton's importance for the Yankees, though he is often criticized.

"I can't stand the way he [Giancarlo Stanton] is criticized. He is maybe the most clutch playoff player the Yankees have had since Jeter. You look at what Stanton does in the playoffs, he's amongst the best in terms of power hitting in the history of baseball," Samson said. [24:30]

Further, Samson addressed the popular misconception of Stanton being "slow".

"He's not that slow, that's another misconception that Bob Costas has promulgated. He doesn't want to go full speed because he thinks that he will get hurt, and he's more valuable hitting than he is running," Samson added. [25:33]

Giancarlo Stanton comes up clutch as Yankees take the lead in the ALDS

On Wednesday, the New York Yankees won 3-2 against the Kansas City Royals in the third game of the ALDS at Kauffman Stadium. With the victory, the Pinstripers take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Giancarlo Stanton had a huge night at the plate, as the hitter registered an RBI and hit a home run. Both times, Stanton's bat gave his team the lead, with the RBI double giving the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, and the solo home run giving them a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth.

This ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day. A rare stolen base capped off a great individual performance for the Yankees slugger, as the 34-year-old stole his first bag since August 2020.

Next, the Yankees take on the Royals once again in the fourth game of the ALDS on Thursday. Fans will be hoping Stanton can again show the sort of quality he did on Wednesday and add to his strong playoff stats.
