Anthony Rendon Injury Update: Angels 3B feeling 'not too great' about his left hamstring following early exit from game against Reds

The Los Angeles Angels suffered a blow early in the season with infielder Anthony Rendon exiting the game against the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday with a left hamstring injury after hitting a single in the first inning.

Zach Neto took his position at first base as a pinch runner. Luis Rengifo took third base in place of Rendon and Neto became shortstop. The Angels lost 7-5, resulting in another series loss.

According to MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger, Rendon is not feeling positive about the injury and could miss some games.

“Anthony Rendon said his left hamstring is feeling "not too great." And said he's feeling: "Frustration. Anger. Mad. Any of those adjectives you want to use," Bollinger tweeted.

Rendon has been injury-prone in recent seasons. In the last three seasons, he has played only 148 games. Last year, he appeared in 43 games and recorded an all-time career-low 22 RBIs with only two home runs on 35 hits.

He’s in the fifth year of his $245 million, seven-year contract. So far, in 18 games, Rendon has contributed only three RBIs while taking bases 22 times with a stat line of .257/.317/.297 and a .614 OPS.

The LA Angels slump to painful defeat against the Reds

The Los Angeles Angels had a rough start against the Baltimore Orioles last month in their opening series. But they rebounded from their losses by sweeping the Miami Marlins. However, since then the Angels have yet to win a series both home and away.

With last night's loss, they are on a three-game losing streak and have lost two home series. They are in third with a 9-12 record, following the Texas Rangers (11-11) and the Seattle Mariners (10-10).

Last night, Miguel Sano’s double in the first inning gave the Angels the lead. Brandon Drury’s ground out gave a chance for Mike Trout to extend the lead to 2-0.

However, that didn’t last long as Stuart Fairchild’s double and Tyler Stephenson’s grand slam made it 5-2 for the Reds. The Reds widened their lead in the fifth inning. And despite Sano and Luis Rengifo’s efforts in the sixth, the game ended with a 7-5 score in favor of Cincinnati.
