The Los Angeles Angels have added a few veteran pieces to their roster after a disastrous 99-loss season in 2024. The AL West team is expected to add a few more signings in the offseason.

The Angels have been linked with All-Star outfielder Anthony Santander and coveted first baseman Pete Alonso in free agency over the last few weeks.

MLB insider Robert Murray gave his opinion on a potential deal for Santander or Alonso with the Angels. Murray feels Santander is a better fit with the AL West team compared to Alonso.

He said on "The Baseball Insiders" podcast (26:55 onwards):

"We've seen them connected to all sorts of different names here, whether it's been Pete Alonso or Anthony Santander. I know they're considering a multitude of different things with Santander being one of them, I don't think Alonso was the most likely option there by any means.
"Perry Minasian (Angels GM) is always examining the markets both in free agency and trade to see what's out there. He is active. He is not trying to like he's not hibernating. But I don't necessarily know of a lot. I don't necessarily think Alonso is the most likely option there. I think the Mets remained the most likely option there but they are considering Santander."

While Murray feels Santander suits the Angels, the former Orioles outfielder has been strongly linked with a move to the Blue Jays, who are looking to add a powerful hitter to compliment Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Bo Bichette in Toronto.

Pete Alonso's potential Angels move questioned by former MLB slugger

Robert Murray isn't the only person critical of a potential move to Angels for Pete Alonso and former MLB slugger Kevin Frandsen questioned Alonso's fit in Anaheim.

"It's funny because you're trying to draw interest from teams. It just doesn't make sense in Anaheim, it doesn't. Everyone should want a Pete Alonso, but what if your roster is built with Nolan Schanuel, Jorge Soler, and Mike Trout, with an unknown in Anthony Rendon? How is that a fit? Tell me how that is a fit" said Frandsen on MLB Network Radio.

The Boston Red Sox have also emerged as a potential landing spot for Anthony Santander while the New York Mets reportedly remain in contention of bringing back Pete Alonso.
