Aroldis Chapman and Salvador Perez are not teammates now, but they are working out together during the MLB offseason. While teams do not report until February for Spring Training, both Chapman and Perez, two longtime veterans of the sport, are aiming to keep in top shape before then.
Chapman took to Instagram story to share a boomerang of their workout with the caption:
"No Days off."
This is a reference to Chapman and Perez's workout schedule, but it's also the name of the song the Boston Red Sox pitcher used in the story. The song is by rapper Fetty Wap and features Monty.
Perez and Chapman only briefly played together with the Kansas City Royals. Following his New York Yankees tenure, Chapman signed a short contract with the Royals.
However, midway through the season, the Royals sent him to the eventual world-champion Texas Rangers, cutting Perez's time with Chapman short. Nevertheless, they seem to have a strong relationship still.
Chapman also posted some of the individual workouts the duo was doing. Chapman stretched, squatted a lot of weight, leg pressed even more, deadlifted, and even more during his time in the gym.
Red Sox did thorough evaluation on Aroldis Chapman
Nine years ago, Aroldis Chapman had a domestic abuse incident. He did not face jail time and eventually moved past it and kept pitching. It is, however, an asterisk on his resume that teams still inquire about.
The Boston Red Sox, his newest team, did just that. They knew the controversy that had surrounded Chapman at the time, and they looked into everything. Per Boston.com, president Craig Breslow said:
"We talked to former teammates, coaches, officials, executives. I talked individually to a number of people within the organization, to get a sense of who the person was that we were getting.
"The feedback was overwhelmingly positive about Aroldis as a teammate, as a positive influence on other players in the clubhouse, particularly some of the younger Latin players, was a guy with an incredible work ethic."
Breslow said they were comfortable moving forward and noted that Chapman had been in good standing with five teams over the last eight years since the incident.
