Atlanta Braves fans react to questions surrounding Spencer Strider's success with a two-pitch mix: "As if he wasn't completely dominant last year?"

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Spencer Strider had his first full season in the majors last year, and he did not disappoint. The young righty compiled an 11-5 record with a 2.67 ERA and 202 strikeouts on 131.2 innings pitched.

He was a core member of the Braves' starting rotation. Strider's name was even mentioned in Rookie of the Year Award discussions. The most impressive part of all of this is that he did this primarily focusing on two pitches: fastball and slider.

Strider throws his fastball 67% of the time and his slider 28% of the time. He possesses a changeup, but it's not something many batters see much as he only throws it 4% of the time.

Not often do you hear of a starting pitcher relying solely on two pitches. Normally, that's something reserved for relief pitchers. Some around the league believe that Strider's two-pitch mix will be his downfall in the future.

"As if he wasn't completely dominant last year?" one fan tweeted.
"It's been done before, at least. Though, I do think his slider needs to improve just a bit for him to be truly dominant past the 6th inning every five games. The elite two pitch starters of the past typically had two 80 pitches," said another fan.

Atlanta Braves fans aren't worried about Strider's future. We'll see more of that changeup this season. It was something he was working heavily on towards the end of the season last year.

Expect another big year from Spencer Strider. If he can establish that changeup this season, he's going to be even more dominant. Don't be surprised if he's in contention for the National League Cy Young Award.

Atlanta Braves will need Spencer Strider to continue his dominance to compete in the division

The Atlanta Braves will be without All-Star closer Kenley Jansen this season. Jansen signed with the Boston Red Sox in free agency over the winter. This puts more pressure on the Atlanta staff.

They shouldn't have a problem with their pitchers going deep into games this season. Atlanta are rolling out Max Fried, Kyle Wright, Charlie Morton, Spencer Strider, and Ian Anderson as their starting five. While there aren't many big-time names in this rotation, they're more than capable of controlling the game.

They'll need big games from their rotation if they want to compete in the division. Teams like the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies are ready for the division to have a new king.
