The Baltimore Orioles City Connect jerseys have just been revealed. The team has joined the long list of franchises that have taken to honoring their city with unique, themed jerseys. The uniforms are supposed to represent the city in some way and connect with the community, as the name would suggest.
So, what did the Orioles do to honor Baltimore?
They designed an all-black jersey. The Cincinnati Reds debuted their all-black jerseys over the weekend against the New York Yankees, so other teams have gone this route and been successful.
The word Baltimore is in all caps across the front of the chest with block lettering and white color. In the sleeves and the neck are bright, colorful patches with designs on them.
Baltimore Orioles City Connect jersey explained
The Baltimore Orioles City Connect uniform may seem like a boring design, but it is very deliberate. It's black with colors hiding on the inside for a reason. The designer says via MLB.com:
"From the outside, it looks all black and white. But there's always more to our story. In art, black doesn't exist without color. You can't see what you're not looking for."
They went on to say that the color represents the people of Baltimore in being colorful, quirky, and vibrant. As of now, the debut date for these incredible jerseys has not been revealed. It will be sometime soon this season in all likelihood.
With the Orioles joining the list, there are not many teams still without a City Connect jersey.
