Baltimore Orioles infielder Ramon Urias is on a similar wavelength to the rest of his teammates and general manager Mike Elias. The Orioles had many positive highlights during the 2022 season but struggled to win consistently throughout the season. Given the Orioles' amazing second half of the regular season, it was too late for them to make that necessary push towards the postseason.
"Last year, we fell very short from the playoffs, The Orioles have the base, and I think it's time to make the playoffs," Ramon Urias said via MLB.com.
Rookie Adley Rutschman came out of the blocks strongly last season and not only rose up the ranks in the Baltimore Orioles' hitting lineup but also became one of the best up-and-coming catchers in the league.
If not the best, Rutschman in 2022 might have been a close second. The 24-year-old slashed .254/.362/.445 in 113 games, with 13 home runs, 35 doubles and 42 RBIs. Also, Orioles pitchers praised his defensive play and pitch-calling skills behind the plate.
"Adley Rutschman hits his first career home run at Camden Yards," Farm To Fame tweeted.
Rutschman's performances last season earned him the second spot for Rookie of the Year, and some analysts and fans even voted for the catcher as a probable candidate for the AL MVP award.
While many Orioles performed well last season, Cedric Mullins rose to prominence in the Orioles' lineup. At Camden Yards, the outfielder had some incredible at-bats and was electrifying in center field.
Baltimore Orioles are all set to hit the ground running for the 2023 Season
The Baltimore Orioles are subject to high internal and external expectations. After falling three games short of an AL wild-card slot during their 83-win 2022 season, Mike Elias has repeatedly indicated that the Orioles' objective for this year's postseason is to win.
"Two Orioles are the the top two favorites. What an awesome time for this franchise," Paul Valle III tweeted.
After posting a 110-loss season in 2021, the team improved to 83 wins under the leadership of rising players Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, Cedric Mullins and Austin Hays. They finished just three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the last American League wild-card slot. So it makes sense that there is a lot of excitement about the squad as the 2023 season approaches.
Given that the Baltimore Orioles were near the bottom of the league less than 18 months ago, saying that 2023 is a "playoffs or bust" year for the organization sounds ambitious. However, it's safe to say that a majority of Birdland residents share the belief that the Orioles will contend for a playoff spot in 2023.
