On Friday, New York Yankees legend Alex Rodriguez talked about Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani, in both the hitting and pitching aspects. In 2024, Ohtani had one of the best individual seasons in major league history as he became the first-ever player to enter the 50-50 club.
On October 25's edition of popular radio program the "Breakfast Club," A-Rod said that Ohtani had a skillset similar to that of a legendary hitter and pitcher at the same time.
"You know what's amazing? [Along with his quality while batting and pitching] He's also 6 foot 5, and is the fastest guy on the field, and he also throws a hundred miles an hour. I don't know if he's the best, because it's too early [to tell]." Rodriguez said [21:38]
"The uniqueness about Ohtani is he's Barry Bonds married with Roger Clemens, and he's one. Is he the best hitter? I would still put probably Barry Bonds a bit ahead of him. Is he a better pitcher? I would still put Clemens on top of him. But, combined, is only a class of two, Ohtani and Babe Ruth." Rodriguez added [21:55]
While his talents with the bat have been pretty obvious this campaign, Shohei Ohtani has not been able to showcase his quality on the mound as he is recovering from an Ulnar Collateral Ligament injury, for which he underwent surgery in September 2023. The Japanese International is expected to be eased into the pitching rotation at some point in the 2025 season.
Dodgers take 2-0 lead in World Series, but suffer huge Shohei Ohtani injury scare
The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the New York Yankees for the second time in a row to take Game 2 of the World Series at Dodger Stadium on Saturday. Home runs from Tommy Edman, Teoscar Hernandez and Freddie Freeman proved to be enough for the Blues to get the job done.
The damper was put on an otherwise great night as Shohei Ohtani suffered a huge injury scare after he appeared to hurt his left shoulder while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning.
According to numerous sources, Japanese language broadcasting companies were reportedly able to translate that Ohtani said he had "popped his shoulder" to his trainer in Japanese. The exact nature or severity of the injury is not confirmed yet.
The Yankees did go on to make the game interesting in the end, as they loaded the bases with one out at one point in the final inning, but the Dodgers ultimately held on to take a 2-0 lead heading to New York for the next three games.
