Team Australia pulled off a major upset victory against Team Korea in the opener in Pool B at the Tokyo Dome Stadium on Thursday. The game ended 8-7 in favour of the Aussies after a back-and-forth encounter that went right down to the wire, and a scoreless ninth inning sealed the W for them.

Pool B consists of two heavyweights in the form of Team Korea and one of the favorites to win the competition, Team Japan. The other three teams consisted of Team China, Team Australia and Team Czech Republic. The last of the three is making their debut whereas the first two have never been abl to qualify out of the first stage in their four previous appearances.

The game was a classic baseball match with twists and turns. Australia got things going in the top of the fourth with a single RBI. After that, it was Korea who took the ascendancy to race to a 4-2 lead. But two three-run home runs by Australia's Robbie Glendinning and Robbie Perkins put them 8-4 ahead. South Korea came back with three runs of their own in the eighth inning but it wasn't enough as Australia held them off for their first win.

Fans from Australia were ecstatic at the victory as they voiced their excitement on Twitter, rooting for the Aussies.

MLB analyst Ben Verlander also tweeted about the upset victory after the game.

Some fans were upset at some of the calls that went against the Koreans. In a tight encounter like this, these calls matter as both teams look to move forward.

Regardless of how it comes, Aussie fans throughout the world will be elated with their team's performance.

Team Australia will look to carry on their good form in Pool B

Team Australia, who are the only representatives from Oceania in the World Baseball Classic, will be looking to carry on their form after this huge victory. They face China in their next encounter which is billed as a head-to-head contest. Their third match will come against one of the tournament favourites, as they face Shohei Ohtani's Team Japan. They completed their fixture list with a game against the Czech Republic.

Korea, on the other hand, have a lot to do as they will be up against the mighty Japan in their second game at the Tokyo Dome Stadium. The odds are clearly against them as they look to make it past pool play for the first time.
