Team Panama made history after recording their first-ever win in the World Baseball Classic. The offense led the way as Panama won 12-5 against Chinese Taipei.

Few expected Panama to pull off an upset in front of a sellout audience at the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium. The vibrant crowd, however, was not enough to slow down the Panama offense.

Baseball fans took to Twitter to congratulate Team Panama on a memorable night in their baseball history.

For a nation that has had little success in the World Baseball Classic. Panama came out on fire. They scored five runs in the fourth inning, six in the sixth inning and one in the seventh and never looked in danger.

Jonathan Arias of the New York Mets was one of the standout performers of the night. The MLB infielder finished with a run, two hits and three RBIs

First baseman Jahdiel Santamaria and Erasmo Caballero each had two RBIs on the night.

Fans were shocked to see a team that many predicted to finish last in the group dominate the game from start to finish.

Prior to the game on Wednesday, Team Panama was 0-5 in the World Baseball Classic. They had failed to score a run in their last 30 innings.

The team will face the Netherlands in their next game on Thursday. It will be a battle between the top two teams in the group after the Netherlands won their first game against Cuba 4-2.

Panama will then have to face Cuba and Italy.

The crowd may have been left disappointed but the few Panama fans that made the trip got their money's worth. Fans online are buzzing after having little to cheer about over the previous years. The victory could be a turning point for a nation that has historically underdelivered.
