Michael Harris II has blossomed into a true star outfielder for the Atlanta Braves in his young career. The 23-year-old from DeKalb, Georgia has been a blessing for the Braves after they selected him in the third round of the 2019 MLB draft. Since that time, the outfielder has won the National League Rookie of the Year while also proving to be an elite on-base contributor for his club.
Given his success in the Majors at such a young age, it's safe to say that the Braves outfielder knows what it takes to make it in MLB. Even though there are still some facets of his game that he can improve upon, it looks like Harris has a lengthy career ahead.
This is why when he speaks, young players should listen. The young outfielder spoke ahead of the 2025 iteration of the DREAM Series — the annual program that was designed to help develop diversity in baseball while giving young players experience, as well as receiving mentorship off the field.
"When I was here, I didn't think I would be in this position I'm in now. I was just in the moment and enjoying being around these players and the coaches, learning from them, who have been in this game for a long time," Harris said, referencing his experience at the DREAM Series in 2017.
Even though listening to MLB superstars can have a major impact on young baseball players, when someone like Harris has actually participated in the same event, it is extra special. The Braves outfielder not only came back to participate but also shared some words of wisdom for the young athletes.
"Be a sponge, take in what they're telling you. Learn from what they're trying to tell you and use it to your advantage. Take what you can to make your career better," Harris added.
Michael Harris II will be joined by a number of former stars and DREAM Series alumni this weekend
A number of notable former MLB players and coaches will be present for the event, which runs from Friday until Monday in Tempe, Arizona. Some of those names include former New York Yankees reliever Dellin Betances, former LA Angels manager Mike Scioscia, and Washington Nationals World Series champion Howie Kendrick.
Other alumni who will be present include Jordan Walker of the St. Louis Cardinals and Kumar Rocker of the Texas Rangers. Given the talent on hand that has come out of the event, participants would be wise to listen to Michael Harris II's words of wisdom.
