If Francisco Lindor was trying to etch his name in New York Mets history, the talented shortstop certainly did so on Monday.
During the first game of the doubleheader between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves, fans were treated to an instant classic, with both teams landing blow after blow as they battled to secure a postseason berth.
Thanks to the heroics of a number of different players, including Francisco Lindor, the New York Mets were able to pull off and amazing come-from-behind victory to secure a postseason spot.
The four-time All-Star came through in the clutch for his club, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the 9th inning to help give the Mets a 8-7 win against their division rivals.
Thanks to the two-run home run from Lindor, the Mets completed their late-season push for the playoffs. New York fans have since flocked to social media to praise their superstar and his clutch at-bat at the end of the game.

"LINDOR IS MY MVP" - One more fan posted online.
"Insane. So clutch by Lindor. LFGGGG" - Another fans shared.
Although it required nearly every player on the Mets to contribute to the victory, the fact that Lindor was able to step up in the 9th inning while being behind is one of the moments that live on forever.
It's clear that this is something that fans will not forget anytime soon, with some even placing him ahead of Shohei Ohtani in the race of National League MVP.

"THAT'S WHY HE'S THE MVP. THAT'S WHY HE'S THE GOAT" - One more shared on social media.

The clutch performance from Lindor and the rest of the New York Mets squad was something to behold as the teams continued to go back and forth all game long. Kudos to the effort from the Atlanta Braves, however, the NL MVP contender simply kept his magical season going.
Francisco Lindor is viewed as the only potential threat to Shohei Ohtani in the NL MVP race
Despite Francisco Lindor's heroics in Game 161 of the season, it appears that the National League MVP Award is Shohei Ohtani's to lose. That being said, there is still an ongoing debate about whether or not the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar should be considered such a heavy favorite given the fact that he is a full-time designated hitter.
Aside from Francisco Lindor's impressive performances at the plate this season, those who favor him to Ohtani believe that his defensive contributions should not be overlooked.
The two-time Gold Glove winner was brilliant yet again this season at shortstop. Even if he is does not win the MVP, he will be able to look back on his year with pride.
