MLB analysts Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker, along with insider Kiley McDaniel, discussed Juan Soto's future on the Aug. 28 episode of "Blair and Barker" on the Sportsnet YouTube channel. Juan Soto is set to enter free agency once the 2024 season ends.
Soto is having an exceptional season with the New York Yankees, and as he is still only 25, he has all the tools as a hitter to dominate the major leagues for years to come. Anyone with hopes to secure his services knows they will need to put a bumper offer on the table.
On the latest episode of "Blair and Barker," McDaniel said he thinks Soto's agent, Scott Boras, will be determined to get him a huge contract (31:00).
"The biggest contract Boras has ever done is the Bryce Harper deal, which was five years ago at 330 (Million). I think there's already been 4-5 deals bigger than that."
"Juan Soto is going to be the biggest contract of his career by atleast 50%. The sort of conversations around recruiting him (Soto) were like 'oh, I'm going to get you $500M.' I think he's set a mark for himself privately, that he needs to hit this out of the park, because this is the biggest one of his career and maybe the biggest one of next 5-10 years."
Juan Soto continues career-best season as Yankees rout Rockies at home
The New York Yankees beat the Colorado Rockies 10-3 at Yankee Stadium on Sunday, sealing their second successive series win.
The visitors took a shock lead to begin proceedings, but formidable offensive trio Juan Soto, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton showed their quality, with all three hitting home runs. Starter Marcus Stroman struck out five and allowed three runs to register a quality outing.
Soto continued to add to the best season of his career so far, hitting a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. His blast proved to be the catalyst for a big inning for the home side — Soto, Judge and Stanton homered back-to-back-to-back to blow the game wide open.
Soto's stats for the season: a .294 batting average, 37 home runs and 95 RBIs.
Next, the Yankees take on the Washington Nationals in the final game of the series in the capital. With both sides having won a game so far, this one is poised nicely and promises to be another action-packed ballgame.
