It has been a tough season for the Toronto Blue Jays. They have not been able to put their best foot forward this season, and currently find themselves in last place in the American League East.
They are 14 games out of first place, and things are not looking up. With the trade deadline quickly approaching, they could have some tough decisions to make soon.
Former MLB pitcher AJ Ramos believes it is time for the team to start cleaning house. He went on MLB Network Radio to discuss how Toronto could navigate through the trade deadline:
"I think you start moving some pieces around that aren't named Guerrero and Bichette, and see where you end up. Maybe you can get some talent back that you can not only say 'We kept our guys but look, we also improved for the future with these guys.'"
Ramos suggests that the front office see what they can get for players not named Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette before pulling the plug. They could get some good talent back without having to get rid of the team's two biggest stars. Ramos said:
"There is a price for everyone but you have to make sure you don't give them away for a penny less than what you want because those guys are great players and you can build your team around them."
However, there is an asking price for every player, but the front office has to make sure they are getting their money's worth if trading either star. If one of the top sluggers leaves, the fanbase would be gutted.
Which Toronto Blue Jays players could be on their way out?
There is a growing belief that the Toronto Blue Jays will be sellers at the deadline. They have a few players on expiring contracts that would not hurt to give them a chance elsewhere.
Yusei Kikuchi seems like a likely candidate to be shipped out ahead of the deadline. He will be somebody a contending team looking for rotational depth would love to sign.
Another player that seems to be on many team's lists is Yimi Garcia. He has pitched well out of the bullpen the last few seasons and is only signed through the 2024 season. He and Kikuchi are the team's best option for a solid return.
