Now that we have turned our calendars to 2025, we are in the thick of the MLB offseason. It will not be long before fans see pitchers and catchers reporting and back to six months of baseball.
While many top-tier free agents have already signed, we can get a general understanding of what to expect next season. However, baseball has a funny way of surprising us, and anything can happen this upcoming season.
4 bold MLB predictions for 2025
#1. Blue Jays trade Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to the Mets
The Toronto Blue Jays have been unable to live up to the hype over the last few years. Since 2020, they have been bounced from the AL Wild Card Series three times while missing the postseason twice.
Toronto could consider trading some valuable players. One of its biggest stars is Vladimir Guerrerro Jr., who is expected to become a free agent next winter. He would bring a great return for a team not completely certain it will re-sign him.
#2. Mike Trout locks in DH role for the Angels
Mike Trout's 2024 season is one that he will want to forget. He struggled to stay on the field, playing in just 29 games after tearing his meniscus twice. The Halos struggled without him.
There were thoughts that the DH role would be his for the 2025 season. That was until the Angels acquired Jorge Soler in a trade with the Atlanta Braves. Soon after, the club decided they would not use him primarily as the DH.
However, that does not mean they cannot change their mind. The fanbase would lose their mind if he got injured this upcoming MLB season and had to miss a good chunk of the year.
#3. Pirates give Paul Skenes an extension
Paul Skenes was one of the top stories of last season. He was sensational after accruing a ton of hype in the MLB Draft and then in the minor leagues. While the Pittsburgh Pirates were hesitant to let him fly, he did not disappoint.
He already looks like an established ace and somebody the club wants to hold onto. Pittsburgh could lock him down for the future, offering him an extension early. Spotrac also likes this idea, projecting a seven-year, $113 million contract.
#4. The White Sox will trade Luis Robert Jr.
The Chicago White Sox are in their rebuilding phase. They have gotten rid of nearly anybody that could bring them value and all that is left is All-Star outfielder Luis Robert Jr.
A ton of teams have shown their interest, but the White Sox want a good return. With dwindling options in MLB free agency, one team could make Chicago an offer they cannot refuse.
