The Toronto Blue Jays are finally receiving some good news amid their season struggles. Shortstop Bo Bichette, who was sidelined due to injury, has started to see some positive progress with his potential return to the major leagues.

Bichette suffered a right calf strain last month and has been working on his return ever since. He had previously only been doing hitting and fielding drills, but he has now started running again at the team's facility in Florida.

Discussing his recovery and return to the Blue Jays, Sportsnet writer Arden Zwelling said:

“Bo Bichette (calf) is continuing to build up and remains on track to join the Blue Jays in Boston on Tuesday to complete his rehab. If he passes some baserunning tests in Boston, Bichette could get out on a rehab assignment as soon as next weekend.”

Zwelling suggests that Bichette will join the team on Tuesday, where he will undergo some tests and if he passes, he could proceed to his next rehab assignment. Discussing the same, Blue Jays manager John Schneider said (via Sportsnet.ca):

"He started running yesterday down in Florida and we'll just continue to ramp that up this week and into the weekend. He's going to meet us in Boston on Monday or Tuesday and continue to kind of ramp up with us, and hopefully goes well and (he'll) get on the rehab assignment."

Although there are still some steps remaining, the two-time All-Star could make his comeback in September if everything goes well.

Bo Bichette is having one of the worst seasons of his career, plagued by injuries

Before suffering the injury in July, Bo Bichette also missed four games before the All-Star break due to a calf issue. Even before the injury, he was having a tough offensive year, with only four home runs.

So far in the 2024 season, Bichette has a .223 batting average, 29 runs, 30 RBIs, and a .597 OPS. In his absence, Leo Jimenez has taken over shortstop duties for the Toronto Blue Jays, posting a .227 batting average.

The Blue Jays (62-68) are ranked last in the AL East with a .477 winning percentage. After winning their three games against the Los Angeles Angels, they will face them again in the series finale on Sunday.
