It's been a year to forget for Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette. The infielder has not only struggled to remain healthy but has not looked like his All-Star self when he is in the lineup. Although only a few weeks remain in the season, it appears that Bichette could soon have the opportunity to string some solid performances.

MLB insider Shi Davidi discussed several topics related to the Blue Jays, including Bo Bichette's health, on an episode of Blair & Barker on Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Friday.

The infielder, who has been out of action since the middle of July with a calf strain, is slated to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Tuesday, hoping to return to the lineup sooner rather than later.

"John Schneider suggested a couple of games at shortstop, maybe a couple games at DH, so maybe 4 or 5 games before he comes back," Davidi said of Bichette's expected rehab plan. [01:20:50]

Although Bichette's numbers so far this season leave much to be desired, the fact that he should be able to return to the Blue Jays with a few weeks remaining could be huge.

"I know he wants to come back and have a couple of weeks to not end his season the way that it did. He's obviously not going to have enough time to turn around his numbers or anything like that, but I get the sense that he really missed playing," Davidi said. [01:21:20]

Bichette has been limited to 80 games this season due to various ailments. However, when he was in the lineup, he wasn't exactly tearing the cover off the baseball. This year, Bo Bichette has posted a .222 batting average with four home runs, 30 RBIs and a .595 OPS.

Bo Bichette's future with the Toronto Blue Jays remains unclear

The two-time All-Star remains under contract for the 2025 campaign, however, the talented shortstop has been linked in trade rumors all season long. Unlike his teammate Vladimir Guerrero Jr., some experts across the MLB believe that Bo Bichette's long-term future may not be with Toronto.

The team that has most often been named in trade rumors involving Bichette is the Los Angeles Dodgers. If the Blue Jays decide to move on from Bichette before he hits unrestricted free agency at the 2025 campaign's end, they could look to acquire a number of young assets to continue their roster retooling.
