Kansas City Royals star Bobby Witt Jr.'s sister, Shaley, and her husband, Cody Thomas, carried out their duty as citizens by making their all-important vote in the 2024 Presidential Elections. The two candidates competing to be the next President of the United States are Donald Trump of the Republican Party and Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.
On Wednesday, Shaley Thomas posted a snap to her Instagram Story after she and her husband successfully cast their votes early.
"Praying for America🙏🇺🇸" Shaley Thomas captioned her story.
Thomas was giving a thumbs-up sign as she took the selfie, while his husband Cody smiled with the "I voted" sticker on his forehead.
As for the projected winner of the election, it is almost impossible to predict at the moment, with Trump and Harris pretty much side by side in the polls. A number of states, such as Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Georgia, are still undecided and have the power to swing the outcome of the result either way.
The US election will be held on Nov. 5, but the winner might not be declared until a few days later. Once finalized, the next President of the United States will be sworn in a few weeks after New Year's Day, in January.
Love for baseball runs deep in Bobby Witt Jr.'s family
In an exceptional 2024 season, shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. finished the season with a .332 batting average, taking home the AL batting title and helping the Kansas City Royals to an ALDS appearance.
Already one of the best players in his position at the young age of 24, naturally, baseball is a hugely important part of Bobby and his family's life.
But this is barely scratching the surface of Bobby Witt Jr. and his family's connection with the sport. Bobby Witt Sr. was also an established big leaguer and played 16 seasons at the top level. Bobby Witt Jr.'s sisters, Nikki, Shaley and Kianna also all played softball while they were growing up.
Continuing the trend, all three of Witt's sisters went on to marry baseball players, per MLB.com. The youngest of the trio, Shaley, is married to former Los Angeles Dodgers and Oakland Athletics player Cody Thomas.
Kianna married Zach Neal, a former reliever who also spent his big league days representing the Dodgers and the A's. Finally, the oldest sister, Nikki, is married to James Russel who formerly played for the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves.
Even Witt's fiancee, Maggie Black, is quite passionate about the sport, having played shortstop and third base for Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where she studied for a B.Sc. in health and exercise.
