The Boston Red Sox lost their second game of the season as they fell 7-6 to the Pittsburgh Pirates in their series opener at Fenway Park on Monday. This was already the third game that resulted in a solitary run margin for the Red Sox.
The Red Sox's pitching issues continued as the Pirates scored all seven runs in the first four innings. However, the batting lineup continues its good form, racing to a five-nothing lead in the first.
The game included a total of six home runs but relatively fewer hits from either side. Bryan Reynolds impressed for the Pirates with two solo fingers and Jason Delay added another for Pittsburgh.
For the Red Sox, Masataka Yoshida hit his first homer, a two-run home run, since joining from the NPB. Triston Casas added his own two-run dinger before Rafael Devers hit a solo shot.
In the pitching department, Kutter Crawford started for Boston. Crawford (0-1) needed 32 pitches to get through the first innings and lasted four innings. He yielded seven runs and eight hits, including three homers. Boston has allowed 30 runs in four games.
Fans took to Twitter to voice their opinion about the pitching and blamed management for their lack of defense.
However, some fans still appreciate the hitting prowess the Red Sox have brought on this season.
