Boston Red Sox fans react to Chris Sale's ballooned ERA to start the season: "He doesn't deserve this man" "He's all over the place"

Chris Sale is healthy and back up on the mound for the Boston Red Sox. He only pitched in two games last season for Boston as injuries plagued him. While returning from Tommy John surgery, he broke his pinky in July while trying to defend a come-backer to the mound. Shortly after that, he broke his wrist while riding his bike.

Sale will try to put 2022 behind him and start fresh this season. While he's healthier than he's been in a while, he's struggling on the bump. In the two games he has started, he has an ERA of 11.25.

So far, Sale has pitched against the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers. He got the no-decision against the Orioles as he only pitched three innings, giving up seven runs on three home runs. He fared a bit better in his Thursday start against the Tigers as he went five innings, giving up three runs on one homer.

This isn't the dominant Chris Sale that baseball fans are used to seeing. He used to dominate being a lanky left-handed pitcher with a very unique arm slot. He drops down his arm, making it a tough at-bat for left-handed hitters.

"He doesn't deserve this man. Red Sox fans don't deserve this," one fan tweeted.
"He's all over the place at the moment and the loss of velocity certainly doesn't help. A Chris Sale in the lower 90s is much less intimidating," another fan tweeted.

Boston Red Sox fans have mentioned Sale's inability to hit his spots consistently. That was certainly a problem in his Thursday outing against the Detroit Tigers. He walked Matt Vierling and Javier Báez on eight straight pitches.

Not everything is going terribly for Sale on the mound. He had six strikeouts against the Baltimore Orioles, despite pitching three innings, and seven strikeouts against the Tigers.

Expect Chris Sale to settle down with time

Since 2021, Chris Sale has only appeared in 12 games for the Boston Red Sox. His delivery is unique and requires many moving parts to link up. It's not surprising that he's having a bit of trouble out of the gate this season.

With more time on the mound, he should be able to find his balance in his delivery. This will help him be more efficient at hitting his spots and nibbling around the corners.
