Right-handed pitcher Brady Singer was traded by the Kansas City Royals to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for second baseman Jonathan India and outfielder Joey Wiemer. The deal took place in November but Tuesday marked the first time the pitcher talked publicly about the move to the Reds.

While it wasn't easy for Singer to part ways with the Royals since he has spent all his five years in the majors with the club so far, a new place comes with new opportunities. He expressed excitement about sharing the field with Reds sensation Elly De La Cruz, who was MLB's stolen base leader last season.

The experience won't be so much different, after all, he comes from the kingdom of Bobby Witt Jr., who possesses similar traits – if not better – than De La Cruz.

"Yeah, first of all, I'm pretty dang lucky. I get to watch Bobby, and now we're talking about hanging out with Tito and having him manage, and now I let you on the cruise. I mean, I just got a front-row seat to a lot of good games," Singer said on MLB Network Radio.

Singer shared his experience of watching the AL MVP finalist make stellar plays on the field and also coming up big time on offense.

"I mean, yeah, so watching Bobby last year — I mean, you guys watched it. I feel like it was a different feeling in the dugout," Singer added. "I think we were just kind of used to it by the end of the year. Whether he made a play up the middle, spun around six times, and launched it, or hit a grand slam whenever we needed him, he just came up. So that was really cool."

Singer then shared his praise for Elly De La Cruz, who he'll meet this Spring.

"But yeah, Elly's, I think, as electric as he is too — I mean, two phenomenal players," Singer said. "It's just really cool to see how many good players we have in our game now ... I'm excited. I got to, like I said, watch Bobby, and Elly's super athletic, swings and everything — he has the whole package, a complete player. I'm spoiled a little bit with two superstars that I get to sit back and watch."

Brady Singer's fit with Reds

Unlike several hard-throwing pitchers, Brady Singer's best pitch averages 92 mph. He induces soft contact, making him a reliable ground ball pitcher. Also, his next destination, Great American Ball Park is the slugger's field, giving him an exciting challenge to take up.

Last season, Singer pitched 179.2 innings across 32 starts for the Royals, going 9-13 with a 3.71 ERA and 3.1 bWAR. None of the Reds pitcher in 2024 eclipsed that innings mark. That's why the Reds' President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall believes it was a good move for the club.

“Last year, we had 16 pitchers on our staff that started games, so just getting someone with some durability and some longevity that’s had quality in the big leagues that we feel can shore up the rotation," Krall said via MLB.com.

Singer joins Hunter Greene and Nick Martinez in the Reds' projected 2025 rotation. Nick Lodolo, Andrew Abbott, Rhett Lowder, Carson Spiers and Graham Ashcraft are expected to round up the rotation.
