After adding Eddie Rosario to the roster, the Atlanta Braves might be on the lookout for the third starter to make themselves equipped with a strong roster. Kevin Kiermaier seems to be a great option available for the Braves.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post has reported that Kevin Kiermaier has been placed on revocable waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Even though Kiermaier is open for the trade, he's still part of the Blue Jays' main roster. He even played in their recent games against the San Francisco Giants. The outfielder has even confirmed the reports.
"It's the chance for a contending team to claim me if they want, from what I was just told. I totally get it with where we're at as a team," Kiermaier told Shi Davidi and Arden Zwelling.
The Braves are definitely a deserving contender to win this year's World Series championship. They need players to fill voids left by the injuries this season, someone that could cover the absence of Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuña Jr.
Christopher Kline of FanSided has claimed that Kevin Kiermaier seems to be the best option for the Braves. He's a four-time Gold Glove recipient, and even though his offense wasn't too great this season, he hit .265/.322/.419 in the previous one. He's currently one of the best defensive players in the league.
The Braves currently require major help in the outfield, and Kevin Kiermaier could be the answer to their problem.
Kevin Kiermaier is owed $4.5 million for the rest of the season
With roughly $4.5 million remaining on his one-year contract, Kiermaier represents a gamble for contending teams. While his bat is currently quiet, his elite fielding and speed could be valuable additions.
For the Blue Jays, it seems to be more of a salary dump. This dilemma lands squarely on the desks of contending teams. Do they take a chance on a defensive expert with a struggling bat for the remaining $4.5 million on his contract?
The Atlanta Braves emerge as a possible suitor. They could acquire Kiermaier without depleting their prospect pool, adding a defensive upgrade without sacrificing future assets. However, the decision hinges on their faith in Kiermaier's ability to rediscover his hitting form.
The Braves might take a shot in the dark and give an offer to Kevin Kiermaier, as they would be better with a great defensive player on the team. Or, they could wait till he ends up being a free agent without a $4.5 million compulsion.
