The former Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy appeared on an episode of the Tomi Lahren Is Fearless show which was released on Friday and voiced his opinion that that he wanted to see the MLB take the same direction as Dana White's UFC to increase their popularity in the United States of America.
"The majority of Americans want to watch professional athletes battle and compete. Why do you think the UFC is doing so well?" Lucroy said. "Why do you think they are because they celebrate America, you know it's, 'we're celebrating our ideals and our principles and our values in this field of competition,' and if these teams would realize that it would be way more profitable."
"I still think that the majority of Americans, especially sports fans are blue-collar people, that work hard, love their children, coach their kids in whatever sport that they love. And they just want to go be entertained and watch people compete at the highest level in the world and they don't want to see drag queens on the field with, you know, stuff hanging out everywhere," he added.
Lucroy also spoke about other things that he thought the MLB fans don't like to see on the field. He said:
"They don't want to see people kneeling for the anthem and disrespecting our military and all the veterans that have died defending our country and keeping it safe. They don't want this rainbow stuff thrown in their face on a daily basis."
Lucroy played with nine different teams in the major league during his 12-season career and spent most of his time playing for the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers drafted the catcher and first batsman in the third round back in 2007.
Jonathan Lucroy opens up about his refusal to kneel to the anthem back in 2020
In November, Jonathan Lucroy recalled on Twitter how he was asked to kneel during the National Anthem as the country came to terms with the death of George Floyd. Jonathan Lucroy stated that he refused the request to kneel, but did not mention the team that made the request.
In an appearance on the OutKick the Morning show hosted by Charly Arnolt Lucroy said speaking about his decision to not kneel during the anthem:
"You know, these teams they come down and they don’t want you to be politically polarizing. They don’t want you to lean a certain way, they just want you to stay neutral and kind of keep your mouth shut. But the problem is I was with a team that told me to kneel for the anthem, and I gave them the finger, and I’m like no, I will never do that."
Jonathan Lucroy announced his retirement on August 2, 2022, and recorded a lifetime .274 batting average in 4,140 plate appearances. He was a 2-time All-Star and made the all-star team in 2014 and 2016.
