Paul Skenes strikes out Aaron Judge as Pirates spoil the party at Yankee Stadium

The Pittsburgh Pirates beat the New York Yankees 9-4 at Yankee Stadium on Friday, as the Bucs secured victory in the last series of their season. Five different pitchers took the mound for the Pirates in what was a bullpen game for the visitors. After clinching the AL East title with a 10-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, the Pinstripers have gone on to lose the next two games.

Ace Paul Skenes began the game and recorded two spotless innings as he struck out Juan Soto and Aaron Judge, the best batters in the league, with the former called out on strikes and the latter swinging through a breaking ball.

Having fallen behind in the race for the playoffs, the Pirates have looked to ensure manage Skenes' workload in the closing weeks of the season to ensure he is fit and firing in 2025. Hence, he only pitched two innings in Saturday's clash. With this, he ends a fantastic first year at the top level with a 1.96 ERA, 170 strikeouts and an 11-3 win/loss record.

Next, Skenes' side take on the Yankees one last time on Sunday, aiming to close their season on a high by sweeping the AL East champions.
